COMMON QUESTIONS ANSWERED

1. Does it hurt?

There’s always a certain amount of discomfort, but most of it is quite bearable and almost feels more like pressure. Obviously, it varies from person to person – what one finds painful, someone else may not.

2. Do you use anaesthetics?

No, we use a medicated mouth wash for oral. However, we no longer use Ethyl-chloride as it can hinder the healing process and cause unnecessary skin irritation.

3. How many piercings can I have done at any one time?

We usually recommend no more than two piercings at one time, because it can slow down the healing process; if you get an infection it can spread to them all.

4. How soon can I change the jewellery?

The official answer to that is as soon as it’s healed, although if you seek the advice of a professional piercer they could maybe change it with totally sterile jewellery and conditions.

5. How long will it take to heal?

The million dollar question, everyone heals at a different rate, so it could take weeks or months, the best thing to do is keep it as clean and dry as possible.

6. How long will my tongue swell up for after piercing?

Usually, up to two weeks; the first week is the worst.

7. What are the chances of rejection?

It all depends on the person, although some piercings (particularly surface piercings) are more likely to reject than others.

8. What jewellery do you use?

We only pierce with the highest quality sterilised implant grade titanium jewellery. Titanium has a low chance of reacting with the skin once pierced.

9. Can I go swimming with my new piercing?

No, not in the sea or chlorinated pools for up to twelve weeks. However, you can bath and shower as normal, but make sure to dry your piercing and don't go to bed with wet hair touching the piercing.
